With international news focused on Egypt’s political movement, a deeper story behind the clashes seems to have gone on under the radar- just a week after Mohamed Morsi was overthrown, over 80 women have reportedly been sexually assaulted in the Tahrir Square celebrations following the ousting. This doesn’t come as a surprise, considering that 99.3 percent of Egyptian women reported being victims of sexual abuse in a UN Survey filed in April. Sexual assault seems to be a rising problem in the Egyptian nation, one that is seemingly only getting worse due to the uninterested attitude of the state.
