Florida mother gets 20 years for firing warning shots while Zimmerman walks free

Marissa Alexander from Jacksonville, Florida was sentenced to 20 years in prison last year for firing warning shots in an alleged act of self-defense against her abusive husband. Marissa had pleaded not-guilty under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, the same law that saw George Zimmerman acquitted from killing teenager Trayvon Martin earlier this year. This story is being brought back into the spotlight after Zimmerman’s recent dismissal of charges after shooting dead the Florida teenager.
